We got over 200 submissions! 65 ideas got one or more TAPAS boards, 10 submissions were presentation-ready.

Fitness Trainer with Power Grid Backfeed

This could be integrated for example into a rowing ergometer or an crosstrainer. In order to supply power back to the power grid TAPAS can be used to convert a) power from the generator to DC with a set power level (probably even with maximum point of power tracking) and b) power to feed a transformer which then supplies the grid. The DC intermediate circuit could be realized by use of several Farads of supercaps.

    Sounds great! Could you provide some more detail how that would look like: do you have a specific model of fitness equipment in mind? what kind of generators do they use? A diagram might also help.

    I think the easiest way would be to use a BLDC motor and integrate that into a rudimentary rowing frame. I already have a 48V BLDC motor which could operate as a generator. I think the TAPAS could be programmed for constant torque at low RPM to account for the spring operated return stroke and also for the amount of resistance when the user is pulling. However, I am a bit intimidated by the 500+ pages of documentation xD But I guess I could make it work somehow.

    The second TAPAS would then operate all three output transistors simultaneously to supply a transformer to feed back into the power grid.

    Please keep in mind that the submission deadline for your presentation is on 24th of June! We are already looking forward to seeing how you brought the TAPAS board to life! :-) Remember that you still have time to work on the implementation of your idea after the submission!
